If you have lost your Apple AirPods, you may be in luck. Their are a few methods to retrieving them safely. If you have checked all of the obvious places like underneath your bed, deep inside a bag, between the sofa, car seats, etc and still no luck, follow our steps below for recovery.
What to do when AirPods are lost
Your Apple iPhone device comes with an app called “Find My”. Use this to either locate your AirPods on a map, play a sound to locate them, or to re-enable wireless listening. The sound option will be your best bet if you know for sure that you didn’t leave them in another location outside of your range.
Using Find My will help you to find your missing AirPods. If Find My is already setup on your Apple Device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch) you can locate your AirPods. Please note that if your AirPods are not charged, the Find My app will only be able to determine the last location of your device. If your AirPods still have some juice in them, you should be able to see them on the map.
Also note that your AirPods will have to be in range for you to locate them. If they are out of range, Find My will only be able to show you the time and location where they were last connected.
How to see your AirPods on a map
To view your AirPods on a map, you can do so in two ways; using iCloud.com or by using the Find My app. With Find My, you will have a simple GPS/map view of your existing devices. If your AirPods are in range, you will see an icon of them. If your AirPods are not connected or charged, it will show the latest time and location of when they were online.
Using iCloud.com to find your AirPods
- Using a computer or web enabled device, open your web browser and go to iCloud.com.
- Sign in using your Apple ID.
- Open Find iPhone.
- Click on All Devices, then click on your AirPods.
Using your Apple Device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch)
- Open the Find My app.
- Click on the Devices Tab.
- Then select your AirPods.
Now under each device, you will be able to see a location or a “no location found” message.
If your AirPods happened to be separated from each other, you will only see one Pod device at a time. You will want to put them back together in the case then refresh the map to see them both together.
Locating Your AirPods by Playing a Sound
You can locate your AirPods by making them play a sound. If your AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to one of your Apple devices, you can play a sound to locate them using the Find My app. The sound level is loud enough for you to hear it nearby. The sound level will continue to get louder for 2 minutes until you click stop.
Playing a sound
- Open the Find My app.
- Select the Devices tab.
- Choose your AirPods from the list.
- Click on Play Sound.
What happens if your AirPods are offline?
Hopefully you enabled Find My AirPods when you first setup your device, if you didn’t then you will not be able to locate your AirPods. Playing a sound won’t work either. The only thing available to you will be the time and location of when your AirPods were last connected.
If your AirPods happen to either come back in range or reconnect, you will then receive a notification on one of your connecting Apple Devices
