The Linksys AE6000 adapter is a small USB device that allows desktop and laptop computers to have WiFi and internet connectivity. The device is compatible with all Windows computers ranging from Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, and now 11.

The AE6000 USB adapter is smaller than the size of a flash drive. The dimension are 2.4 x 8.43 x 5.31 inches. This WiFi adapter is a plug-and-play device which means, it will automatically start working when you plug it into your computer. No additional drivers or installation CDs needed for it to work.

Enabling WiFi on Older Computers

Computers that predate 2010 are considered old. Desktop computers specifically won’t have a WiFi card installed, only an ethernet card. To avoid lengthy cables, the best solution is to use a mini WiFi adapter to enable internet access.

The AE6000 USB adapter will connect to any compatible Modem, Router, or WiFi Extender. The device is a dual-band adapter which supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz band frequencies. Whether you have an older router in your home that solely supports 2.4GHz or a newer wireless network device that supports 5GHz only, the AE6000 connects to both with no problem.

Existing WiFi Enabled Computers

Some desktop and laptop computers that are already WiFi enabled may only support either 2.4GHz or 5GHz band frequency. This can become a problem for individuals looking to connect to a router or hotspot device with a incompatible band frequency.

Installing the AE6000 USB device solves that problem. By plugging in this device, you are essentially overriding the existing WiFi adapter settings and replacing it with a new one. Wireless Networks that were not visible before will now be available for you to connect to.

Technical Features

The Linksys AE6000 WiFi Mini USB Adapter is a Dual-Band device that operates at either 2.4GHz on Wireless-N or 5GHz on Wireless-AC. Because of the size of the device, the internal antennas are rather small. That means top speeds you can see are up to 430 Mbps on the 5GHz band and up to 150 Mbps speed on the 2.4GHz band.

Settings up the device is easy, just plug it into a USB port and you are instantly connected to the internet. The device uses advanced security and supports up to 128-bit encryption (WEP, WPA and WPA2).

Pros

Dual-Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

Plug-and-play device. No installation necessary.

Compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, and 11.

Small, Compact, and Easy to transport.

Cons

Speeds are not great for streaming HD video or online PC gaming.

Not compatible with Mac.

Overview

The Linksys AE6000 WiFi Mini USB Adapter is the perfect device for individuals who are looking to add wireless internet connectivity to their desktop or laptop computers. This small compact device is plug-and-play and will instantly start working when plugged into a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port.

For the value of this adapter, this device is great for users who check their emails, browse social media, watch Youtube videos and more. Not great for high-definition online gaming and HD video streaming.

Looking to add wireless connectivity to your laptop or desktop computer? The Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 may be the device you are looking for. This device can connect to wireless routers and WiFi extenders in your home or office at great distances.

If you do have an existing computer that is WiFi enabled, but has a problem connecting or discovering a particular network, the issue may stem from the band frequency. Some WiFi enabled devices have either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. For newer network devices and computers, both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands are the standard.

Why Choose The AC1900 Adapter

The Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi Adapter is compatible with 802.11AC/N and all legacy Wi-Fi devices, that means routers, hotspots, and extenders that use either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band frequency, will be able to connect with no problem. The antenna of the WiFi device flips up, giving you a extended boost in range.

The installation process is simple. Once you plug in the WiFi adapter to your computer using the supplied USB cable, the next step is to insert the CD that comes along with it to install the necessary drivers and software. Once installed, you will be able access Wireless Network screen using the provided Netgear software or directly from your system tray.

The AC1900 WiFi USB Adapter is compatible with both Windows PC (7, 8, 10, 11) and Mac OS X 10.8.3. Depending on the band you are connected to, you can transfer speeds up to 600Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 1300Mbps on 5GHz. The adapter is compatible with both USB 2.0 ports and USB 3.0 ports. For the best speeds and performance, connect to a USB 3.0 port.

The AC1900 WiFi USB Adapter provides a lag-free experience for gaming and streaming videos. Inside of the antenna are 4 internal antennas for imporved performance. But to acheive maxium performance, expecially if you do alot of online gaming, make sure that your computer is not too farway from the Wireless Router.

Product is durable and has a sturdy build.

Connecting to USB 3.0 Port provides a lag-free experience.

Overview

The AC1900 WiFi USB Adapter is the perfect choice for users looking to add WiFi to their existing laptop and desktop computers. This adapter also enabled computer with a missing band frequency to connect to routers and extenders with no problem. When this device is connected to a USB 3.0 port, transfer speeds are fast and provide you with a lag-free experience. The device is a bit clunky, but overall gets the job done.

Rating: 8.5/10

Leave it to the folks at Google, maybe the most influential technology company on the planet, to FINALLY solve one of the biggest challenges in home connectivity – basic routers that drop signals, cannot unleash your full speed, and really start to bottleneck when multiple people jump online at the same time.

The brand-new Google Wi-Fi System is a revolutionary new router that gives you the ability to enjoy an out-of-the-box home network with increased security, dramatically improved stability, and top-tier speed and performance levels – a lot of a router that isn’t going to break your bank account into tiny little pieces.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that the new Google Wi-Fi System can be further extended with other Google Wi-Fi System routers, blanketing your home to make sure that every square inch of your property enjoys blazing fast speeds and stable connections.

Tech Specs

The Google Wi-Fi System operates on the same principle as a “mesh network”, literally blanketing your entire home in concentric circles of Wi-Fi connectivity to make sure that there are no dead zones, no drop-offs in performance, and no degradation in your online connection.

Utilizing numerous “mini routers” that can be spread throughout your home (including on different levels) you’ll get a much stronger signal in areas where you might not have received any Wi-Fi signal at all from your traditional router.

Speeds upwards of 1200 Mb per second are possible across a Wi-Fi connection with the Google Wi-Fi System, something once thought to be almost impossible without ridiculously expensive routers tuned for gaming systems.

Pros

Effortless to set up, a single application gets you up and running with a secure and stable network inside of five minutes

Just one Google Wi-Fi System can provide you with full coverage for 1500 ft.²; three Wi-Fi Systems will cover 4500 ft.²

You get 24/7 phone support and a one year warranty directly from the folks at Google

Cons

You’ll be forced into using the proprietary Google router set up software, and cannot install your own open sourced software after set up has completed

Not a lot of support for hard-wiring

Final Verdict

All things considered, the Google Wi-Fi platform is one of the most impressive new mesh Wi-Fi network solutions we’ve ever seen.

A Google account and iOS/Android device will be necessary to get your new mesh network up and running, but other than that you’ll be ready to rock ‘n roll with the new Wi-Fi System from Google in about five minutes or less – all with improved stability, security, and performance as well!

At this price point you just can’t beat the benefits.

The Netgear Nighthawk X6S tri-band router offers incredibly high speeds and is capable of handling demanding loads. If high latency, connection speed and technical skills are your main problem, this is the router to get. Netgear’s Nighthawk X6S Tri-Band Range Extender offers a solution. Netgear is selling the tri band as an extension for existing routers. NetGear also offers the same ultra high bandwidth of Netgear X6S, as well as other powerful routers. But it also behaves as a range extender that consumers will be happy with. Without sacrificing speed, you can extend the range to cover one specific dead zone in your home. Purchasing this extender with high tier router can be expensive than a simple WiFi system, or it might be cheaper if you already have a router that you are satisfied with at home but a distinguishing feature of this range extender is Netgear’s patented FastLane3 technology.

FastLane3 is a smart marketing term that Netgear developed to describe three important Netgear components of the Nighthawk X6s those being tri-band Wi-Fi, a dedicated Wi-Fi link from the extender unit to your router and an optimized antenna design inside the range of the extender. That is the secret sauce to extwnding fast wireless coverage in your home or office without compromising bandwidth.

The NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S range extender is designed using the technology developed by Netgear for its popular Orbi WiFi system. It is taggerd as a tri-band router, but for clients it’s tagged as a two-band model. A band is reserved as a dedicated backhaul channel, leaving two bands of consumer facing connectivity. It offers bandwidth up to 3 Gbps and supports an important technology such as Mu-MIMO and a form of beam shaping. It can work as a range extender as well as an access point, making it compatible with just about any router on the market.

Design

It is designed as a table extender that can be placed on a desk, table or shelf. It is rather monolithic and also looks like a large slab that is standing tall. The front is quite plain except for a Netgear logo and a series of LED status lights. These status lights indicate activities of the WiFi system as a whole, power, Ethernet connectivity, and as well as separate indicators for each WiFi channel.

Connectivity

At the back, there are five separate Ethernet ports. Four of them are outlets that allow you to connect your wired devices to the Internet. One of them acts as a LAN port. This LAN port is used to make the extender work as an access point. This means that you connect it to a hard wired network and producing an entirely new wireless network. This is useful in commercial settings where you want to create a customer facing wireless network that is easily accessible. Client facing networks can have their own names and rules, preventing guest from accessing parts of your network that would otherwise be considered unavailable.

Range

A single Nighthawk X6S router has enough range to comfortably cover a 2500 square foot home. This extender has similar technology and can cover the same range. However, if you use two, you will not get a coverage of 5000 square feet.

The reason behind this is that the extender must first have a decent wireless connection for a start. If you place it inside of a dead zone, it wont be able to connect to the base router. The simplest solution is to place them between the area where the connection is bad. This would increase the range by 50%.

If you’re looking for a router that mixes smart design with simple features and solid performance, Google WiFi Router On Hub AC1900 is a solid choice. However, users who like to get their hands dirty may prefer the control and flexibility of more conventional products. For the rest of us, Google WiFi will likely eliminate some key pain points and provide an easy transition to the connected home.

Google officially enters the home Wi-Fi router arena. Co-developed with TP-Link, the On Hub AC1900 is a dual-band model with a sleek form factor that looks nothing like a traditional router. It contains more than a dozen antennas, is a cinch to install, and it uses a thoughtfully designed app to control certain network functions. The OnHub AC1900 is equipped with circuitry to control Zig Bee home automation devices and has a Bluetooth 4.0 radio, but neither of these features are enabled as of this writing. Moreover, it will only accommodate one wired LAN connection, and its lone USB port is reserved for recovery purposes.

The On Hub is an AC1900 router that can (theoretically) provide up to 600Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1,300Mbps on the 5GHz band. Under the hood are a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of eMMC flash storage (for software updates), and 1GB of DDR3 memory. There are also six 2.4GHz antennas and six 5GHz antennas arranged in a circular pattern for maximum coverage in all directions, a reflector antenna that boosts signal strength, and a congestion-sensing radio that continually polls wireless activity and changes channels to increase performance. The OnHub is also equipped with Zig Bee and Bluetooth antennas, but neither are currently enabled. Google says it plans to add support for both in the future, but does not provide a timeframe.

Design

The Google OnHub AC1900 developed in tandem with TP-Link, is easily one of the best-looking routers ever developed. Unlike countless other routers to be found on store shelves, the OnHub comes with a sleek design that’s actually meant to be placed in a prominent position in the home – not tucked away in an office corner somewhere.

OnHub boasts a blue cylindrical case that can be taken off to reveal the device’s internals. At the bottom is a metal stand and at the top is a circular, grate-like cap. Underneath the hood, there are two Ethernet ports – one for WAN and another for LAN. There’s also a USB port and, according to Google, support for Bluetooth and Weave – the company’s home-automation platform. The On Hub’s design reflects the concept that Google is bringing to the table with the router: simplicity. Although there are no antennae in sight, the router is capable of pumping out both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks without trouble. If design were the only metric by which I was judging the OnHub, it would perform exceedingly well.

Installation and Performance

Installing the OnHub couldn’t be easier, but you’ll have to have a valid Google account to do so. To start, download the app and sign in using your Google account username and password. Follow the on-screen instructions to plug in the router’s power and Ethernet cable, then get the router’s setup code and SSID from its base. Go to your mobile device’s Wi-Fi settings, connect to the router’s SSID, and return to the Google On app to name the router and create your network. Use your Wi-Fi settings to connect to the router, and you’re done. Google suggests putting the OnHub out in the open, preferably at eye level for optimal range, but most homeowners will be limited in their location choices unless their home is wired for Ethernet.

Google On App

Whereas most routers are managed via a Web-based interface, the OnHub AC1900 is managed using the free Google On app for iOS or Android and does not currently offer Web-based controls. The app is very easy to use and offers plenty of tips and explanations for its various settings. The main page displays an overview with a diagram of your connected devices. It alerts you to any issues and offers a brief explanation and a link to the Help Guide to resolve those issues. You can click on any device to see its IP address, MAC address, connection status, and upload and download history. You can also view real-time data usage for each device and assign traffic priority for 1-, 2-, or 4-hour periods.

Overview of the features of Google WI Fl Router

• Super fast Wi-Fi speeds up to 1900 mbps to help with smooth streaming, gaming and downloading

Should you buy it?

Google has designed the device to be accessible to beginners and those who want simplicity when setting up a home network. While it certainly delivers there. Anyone looking for a simple experience will like what they find in the On Hub AC1900, and if that’s combined with the quality of its experience, it’s hard not to choose it.

Pros

• Simple setup
• Modular design for better coverage
• Family-friendly control features
• Modern design

Cons

• No web interface
• Lacks some advanced features
• Only two cable ports

Conclusion

The Google On Hub AC1900 is designed for non-tech-savvy users looking for a quick and easy way to bring dual-band networking to the home, and in that respect, it succeeds. Its unique design lets you place it anywhere in the house (as long as you have a wired Ethernet connection there) and its user-friendly app makes it easy to set up and monitor your home Wi-Fi network.

The newest addition to GMYLE’s family of smart home devices, the GYMLE Mini Smart Plug is a Wi-Fi enabled switch that lets you control things like lamps, tabletop fans, coffee makers, and other small appliances, using your Android or iOS mobile device. It supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands, and offers hourly, daily, and weekly scheduling.

Design and App

At 1.4 by 3.8 by 2.4 inches (HWD), the Mini Smart Plug isn’t all that mini. In fact, it’s a tad wider than the Zuli Smart Plug $15.72 at Amazon (1.4 by 1.6 by 2.7 inches) and the wall switch in the iDevices Smart Home Essentials Kit (1.5 by 2.7 by 1.6 inches), but it’s small enough that you can fit two of them together in a two-socket outlet. The switch sports a glossy white finish and has a three-prong outlet on its face, along with an on/off button and a tiny LED indicator that blinks white and amber during setup and glows a steady white when the switch is on. Around back is a three-prong plug.

The Mini uses the same Android and iOS app as other GMYLE devices. The app opens to a home page that displays a list of all installed GYMLE devices and their status (on, off, not detected). The Mini has a button that lets you turn the switch on and off from within the app. In the top right corner of the page is a pencil icon that allows you to reset devices and edit the names and pictures that identify each one. At the bottom of the page are buttons for Rules, More, and Devices.

The Rules page is where you go to set up schedules for the switch, configure the timer, and set up an Away Mode, which turns devices such as lamps on and off at different times to make it look as if someone is home. You can schedule the Mini to turn on or off at specific times and on specific days, or you can have it turn on and off when the sun rises and sets. The More button takes you to a page with settings that allow you to enable/disable Remote Access and set the switch up for use with If This Then That (IFTTT) recipes.

Installation and Performance

The Mini Smart Plug connects directly to your Wi-Fi network and doesn’t require a home automation hub. To install it, download the app, plug the switch into a wall outlet, go to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, and connect to the Mini’s SSID. When you open the app, a setup screen will launch and ask you to name the switch and if you want the app to remember your Wi-Fi settings. After about 30 seconds, the Mini will appear on the device list.

Overview of the product features

Plug in a GMYLE Wi-Fi smart plug, control your appliances through an App on your smartphone and tablet anywhere. With WiFi control, no hub or subscription needed.

Works with Amazon Alexa, turns on or off appliances by voice control.

Easy to install. All you need to do is setting up your Smart Plug with wifi network, plug in and register the appliances.

Countdown function allows you to turn on or off appliance automatically, preventing power waste and over-charging.

Schedule automatically. Set up worry-free schedule by using timer function. Turn on/off your devices based on specific time you set; Never come back to a dark house. Schedule the fan to turn on before you arrive. Sync lights and devices to pre-set times automatically.

Pros

Easy to install.

Works with Alexa and IFTTT.

No hub required.

Nice scheduling options.

Cons

Doesn’t track energy usage.

No HomeKit support.

Why should you buy it?

With GYMLE WiFi smart plug mini, you can set up any number of time- or day-based schedules. For instance, with two plugs you can turn a bedside table light on and a sleep machine off at a specific time or when the sun rises. There’s also a handy “away mode” that turns a lamp’s lights on and off at random intervals to make it appear as if you’re home. Because the GYMLE works with platforms like Nest, you can also configure the plug to turn on a specific light when your Nest Learning Thermostat recognizes that you’re home.

In all of these scenarios, the smart plug worked almost flawlessly. Occasionally, the app was sluggish or would get hung up, but that seems to be the norm for pretty much every dedicated smart device app these days. Apple households may miss HomeKit compatibility and the ability to use Siri, but given all the other smart platforms that do work with the GYMLE, that pining will probably be brief.

Conclusions

The GYMLE Mini Smart Plug is a great smart home accessory for people who don’t like smart home accessories. It’s affordable, easy to setup and use, and lets you automate everyday devices in your home without committing to a single smart home platform.

The GYMLE WiFi Mini Smart Plug provides an easy way to convert lamps and other small appliances into smart devices that you can control from your smartphone. It offers plenty of scheduling options, supports IFTTT recipes, and voice commands with Alexa and Google Assistant. It’s also a breeze to install and performed wonderfully in testing. That said, for an additional $15, the GYMLE Insight Switch does everything the Mini does, and gives you daily and monthly energy usage and cost reports. As such, it remains our Editors’ Choice for smart power outlets.

Setting Up Your AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router

Before setting up your WiFi Router, make sure that you have an existing internet connection from a Modem. (A modem is what your Internet Service Provider or Cable Company provided you when you purchased a internet service package.)

If you haven’t already, unpackage the router and it’s accessories. You should have the Router, a yellow Ethernet Cable, and a Power adapter.

For the best WiFi performance, position both the left and right Antennas 45 degrees away from the center.

Turn off your Cable Modem and make sure your WiFi Router is not connected to a power source. In the back of your WiFi Router, their is a yellow port called “Internet”, take the yellow Ethernet Cable and plug it there.

Take the other end of the yellow Ethernet Cable and plug it into the Ethernet Port of your Cable Modem.

Connect the power source for your Cable Modem and your WiFi Router. Turn on both devices. (You will know when the router is on and ready when the Power LED lights are amber and then turns white.)

On the router device their should be a label that contains the preassigned WiFi login credentials (Username and Password). Open any working browser from a WiFi enabled device (Mobile Device, Tablet, etc.) and select your WiFi network.

After connecting to your WiFi network, open any web browser, type a web address (google.com, etc.) and see if you have internet access. You now should be all set.

Usually before successfully connecting to the router, an installation assistant displays in your web browser. You can visit www.routerlogin.net to connect directly into your WiFi routers admin panel. Use the following credentials to login (case-sensitive): username: admin / password: password.

The admin panel allows you to access all of the routers features such as port forwarding, optimizing internet speeds for video streaming (Netflix, Youtube, etc.) and video gaming (Xbox, PS4, etc.). Other great features available from the Router are using the device as a media hub by connecting any external USB Storage Device. You can block internet access with a Keyword Filter to prevent children from looking at the wrong websites. VPN (Virtual Private Network), have your own private network where you can access your personal files from all over the world or host your own Website.

If you haven’t purchase the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router (R6700), now it’s the time. This is a device that will future proof you for the new emerging technologies that become available.

More-so, it’s range of abilities are guaranteed to make it a permanent feature in offices and ‘man-caves’ across the world.
