The Netgear Orbi AC2200 Tri-band WiFi System is your complete WiFi solution that combines a Cable Modem, WiFi Router and Range Extender all together. Do you have the Orbi WiFi system and need help setting it up? The guide below will help you to jump start and optimize your WiFi network.

Out of the box, your complete system should consist of the following items:

Orbi Router

Orbi Wall Plug Satellites

Ethernet Cable

Power Adapter

When your Orbi Router is completely setup and working, you want to take note of the following: The Power LED in the back of the device should be Solid Green and the Router LED Ring (top of device) should be off, this indicates that the router has finished booting and is working properly.

Your Satellite wall plugs should also have no ring light at the top, this means it is properly synced to the Orbi Router and is running.

Setting Up Your Netgear Orbi WiFi System

Orbi Router

Unplug the power from your cable modem

Connect the Yellow Ethernet Cable into your cable modem’s Ethernet Port, then connect the other end into your Orbi Router

Plug the power cord back into your Cable Modem

Plug the power cord into your Orbi Router

If you do not see any lights on your Orbi Router, press the power button on the back of the device.

Orbi Satellites

Plug in your Orbi Satellite into the wall socket. Choose a reasonable distance from your router to offer better WiFi coverage in your home or office.

The light on the Satellite device should be on, if not, then press the power button in the back of the unit.

Your Satellite will go through a few color changes. When the device settles on Blue, that means your Satellite and Router are successfully synced and has a great connection. If the color is Amber, that means the connection is fair, but can be better. The Magenta color means your Satellite device failed to sync.

Trouble Shooting Your Satellite Device(s)

Amber Color – If your device is displaying the Amber color, unplug your Satellite and position it closer to your Orbi Router.

Magenta Color – If your device is displaying the Magenta color, same as above, re-position it closer to the Orbi Router. Press the Sync button on the back of your Orbi Router. Within 2 minutes, press the Sync button on the back of your Orbi Satellite.

Repeat steps until you see a steady Blue light at the top of the Orbi Satellite.

Connecting to your Orbi WiFi network

After following all of the steps above, the Orbi Router & Satellite are working. You can simply access your network by selecting the Orbi Network from your WiFi selection screen on your mobile device. To locate the WiFi Network Name (SSID) and Password, you can find them on your Router Label. If you are connecting to your Orbi Router via Ethernet network cable, you won’t need any user name or password.

Launch a web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) and type in orbilogin.com

Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process.

You are now connected to the internet!

Accessing the Orbi Web Interface

Launch a web browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) and type in orbilogin.com

Enter Username: Admin / Password: What you created during the installation wizard

With access to the Orbi Web Interface you are allowed to adjust settings such as:

Port Forwarding

Guest WiFi Access

Circle with Disney

Network Security

Website filtering via keywords

Updating WiFi SSID and Password

Connecting new Satellite devices

Updating ISP Connection

DNS Server Configuration

Email Alerts

The Netgear Nighthawk X6S tri-band router offers incredibly high speeds and is capable of handling demanding loads. If high latency, connection speed and technical skills are your main problem, this is the router to get. Netgear’s Nighthawk X6S Tri-Band Range Extender offers a solution. Netgear is selling the tri band as an extension for existing routers. NetGear also offers the same ultra high bandwidth of Netgear X6S, as well as other powerful routers. But it also behaves as a range extender that consumers will be happy with. Without sacrificing speed, you can extend the range to cover one specific dead zone in your home. Purchasing this extender with high tier router can be expensive than a simple WiFi system, or it might be cheaper if you already have a router that you are satisfied with at home but a distinguishing feature of this range extender is Netgear’s patented FastLane3 technology.

FastLane3 is a smart marketing term that Netgear developed to describe three important Netgear components of the Nighthawk X6s those being tri-band Wi-Fi, a dedicated Wi-Fi link from the extender unit to your router and an optimized antenna design inside the range of the extender. That is the secret sauce to extwnding fast wireless coverage in your home or office without compromising bandwidth.

The NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S range extender is designed using the technology developed by Netgear for its popular Orbi WiFi system. It is taggerd as a tri-band router, but for clients it’s tagged as a two-band model. A band is reserved as a dedicated backhaul channel, leaving two bands of consumer facing connectivity. It offers bandwidth up to 3 Gbps and supports an important technology such as Mu-MIMO and a form of beam shaping. It can work as a range extender as well as an access point, making it compatible with just about any router on the market.

Design

It is designed as a table extender that can be placed on a desk, table or shelf. It is rather monolithic and also looks like a large slab that is standing tall. The front is quite plain except for a Netgear logo and a series of LED status lights. These status lights indicate activities of the WiFi system as a whole, power, Ethernet connectivity, and as well as separate indicators for each WiFi channel.

Connectivity

At the back, there are five separate Ethernet ports. Four of them are outlets that allow you to connect your wired devices to the Internet. One of them acts as a LAN port. This LAN port is used to make the extender work as an access point. This means that you connect it to a hard wired network and producing an entirely new wireless network. This is useful in commercial settings where you want to create a customer facing wireless network that is easily accessible. Client facing networks can have their own names and rules, preventing guest from accessing parts of your network that would otherwise be considered unavailable.

Range

A single Nighthawk X6S router has enough range to comfortably cover a 2500 square foot home. This extender has similar technology and can cover the same range. However, if you use two, you will not get a coverage of 5000 square feet.

The reason behind this is that the extender must first have a decent wireless connection for a start. If you place it inside of a dead zone, it wont be able to connect to the base router. The simplest solution is to place them between the area where the connection is bad. This would increase the range by 50%.

Overview of the technical features of the product

Extreme AC3000 WiFi speeds- up to 3Gbps (1733 + 866 + 400)

If you’re looking for a router that mixes smart design with simple features and solid performance, Google WiFi Router On Hub AC1900 is a solid choice. However, users who like to get their hands dirty may prefer the control and flexibility of more conventional products. For the rest of us, Google WiFi will likely eliminate some key pain points and provide an easy transition to the connected home.

Google officially enters the home Wi-Fi router arena. Co-developed with TP-Link, the On Hub AC1900 is a dual-band model with a sleek form factor that looks nothing like a traditional router. It contains more than a dozen antennas, is a cinch to install, and it uses a thoughtfully designed app to control certain network functions. The OnHub AC1900 is equipped with circuitry to control Zig Bee home automation devices and has a Bluetooth 4.0 radio, but neither of these features are enabled as of this writing. Moreover, it will only accommodate one wired LAN connection, and its lone USB port is reserved for recovery purposes.

The On Hub is an AC1900 router that can (theoretically) provide up to 600Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and up to 1,300Mbps on the 5GHz band. Under the hood are a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of eMMC flash storage (for software updates), and 1GB of DDR3 memory. There are also six 2.4GHz antennas and six 5GHz antennas arranged in a circular pattern for maximum coverage in all directions, a reflector antenna that boosts signal strength, and a congestion-sensing radio that continually polls wireless activity and changes channels to increase performance. The OnHub is also equipped with Zig Bee and Bluetooth antennas, but neither are currently enabled. Google says it plans to add support for both in the future, but does not provide a timeframe.

Design

The Google OnHub AC1900 developed in tandem with TP-Link, is easily one of the best-looking routers ever developed. Unlike countless other routers to be found on store shelves, the OnHub comes with a sleek design that’s actually meant to be placed in a prominent position in the home – not tucked away in an office corner somewhere.

OnHub boasts a blue cylindrical case that can be taken off to reveal the device’s internals. At the bottom is a metal stand and at the top is a circular, grate-like cap. Underneath the hood, there are two Ethernet ports – one for WAN and another for LAN. There’s also a USB port and, according to Google, support for Bluetooth and Weave – the company’s home-automation platform. The On Hub’s design reflects the concept that Google is bringing to the table with the router: simplicity. Although there are no antennae in sight, the router is capable of pumping out both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks without trouble. If design were the only metric by which I was judging the OnHub, it would perform exceedingly well.

Installation and Performance

Installing the OnHub couldn’t be easier, but you’ll have to have a valid Google account to do so. To start, download the app and sign in using your Google account username and password. Follow the on-screen instructions to plug in the router’s power and Ethernet cable, then get the router’s setup code and SSID from its base. Go to your mobile device’s Wi-Fi settings, connect to the router’s SSID, and return to the Google On app to name the router and create your network. Use your Wi-Fi settings to connect to the router, and you’re done. Google suggests putting the OnHub out in the open, preferably at eye level for optimal range, but most homeowners will be limited in their location choices unless their home is wired for Ethernet.

Google On App

Whereas most routers are managed via a Web-based interface, the OnHub AC1900 is managed using the free Google On app for iOS or Android and does not currently offer Web-based controls. The app is very easy to use and offers plenty of tips and explanations for its various settings. The main page displays an overview with a diagram of your connected devices. It alerts you to any issues and offers a brief explanation and a link to the Help Guide to resolve those issues. You can click on any device to see its IP address, MAC address, connection status, and upload and download history. You can also view real-time data usage for each device and assign traffic priority for 1-, 2-, or 4-hour periods.

Its unique design lets you place it anywhere in the house (as long as you have a wired Ethernet connection there) and its user-friendly app makes it easy to set up and monitor your home Wi-Fi network.

Setting Up Your AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router

Before setting up your WiFi Router, make sure that you have an existing internet connection from a Modem. (A modem is what your Internet Service Provider or Cable Company provided you when you purchased a internet service package.)

If you haven’t already, unpackage the router and it’s accessories. You should have the Router, a yellow Ethernet Cable, and a Power adapter.

For the best WiFi performance, position both the left and right Antennas 45 degrees away from the center.

Turn off your Cable Modem and make sure your WiFi Router is not connected to a power source. In the back of your WiFi Router, their is a yellow port called “Internet”, take the yellow Ethernet Cable and plug it there.

Take the other end of the yellow Ethernet Cable and plug it into the Ethernet Port of your Cable Modem.

Connect the power source for your Cable Modem and your WiFi Router. Turn on both devices. (You will know when the router is on and ready when the Power LED lights are amber and then turns white.)

On the router device their should be a label that contains the preassigned WiFi login credentials (Username and Password). Open any working browser from a WiFi enabled device (Mobile Device, Tablet, etc.) and select your WiFi network.

After connecting to your WiFi network, open any web browser, type a web address (google.com, etc.) and see if you have internet access. You now should be all set.

Usually before successfully connecting to the router, an installation assistant displays in your web browser. You can visit www.routerlogin.net to connect directly into your WiFi routers admin panel. Use the following credentials to login (case-sensitive): username: admin / password: password.

The admin panel allows you to access all of the routers features such as port forwarding, optimizing internet speeds for video streaming (Netflix, Youtube, etc.) and video gaming (Xbox, PS4, etc.). Other great features available from the Router are using the device as a media hub by connecting any external USB Storage Device. You can block internet access with a Keyword Filter to prevent children from looking at the wrong websites. VPN (Virtual Private Network), have your own private network where you can access your personal files from all over the world or host your own Website.

If you haven’t purchase the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router (R6700), now it’s the time. This is a device that will future proof you for the new emerging technologies that become available.
