If you have either lost your phone, restarted it, switched to iPhone from Android or just got a new iPhone and want to transfer over your existing contacts, you can do so with Google Contacts from your gmail account. The majority of mobile phone users who have either an Android or iPhone device also has a gmail account. When connected and depending on your setup configuration, your contacts from your mobile phone, If you have a gmail account, are synced to Google Contacts.

See if your contacts are saved on Google Contacts

Before you proceed with restoring your contacts, let’s first check to see if they are in your Google Contacts. You can check and access your contacts by:

  1. Logging into Gmail (gmail.com)
  2. At the top right of your screen, next to your profile icon are 9 dots, click on that to access the Google Apps menu.
  3. Click on the icon that says Contacts.
  4. On this page, you will see the full list of contacts.

To directly log into your Google Contacts, you can go to contacts.google.com and just enter your gmail email address and password.

Importing Your Contacts from Google to iPhone

Now that you know your contacts exist, it is time to load them on to your phone. To do that, simply follow all of the steps below.

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings -> Accounts & Passwords -> Add Account.
  2. Select Gmail to add your Google Account.
  3. Sign-in with your Gmail email and password.
  4. After your Gmail account has been added, go back to Settings -> Accounts & Passwords -> Gmail
  5. On the Gmail screen, click on the toggle button next to Contacts. The button should be green.

Now that you have successfully connected your iPhone to your Gmail account, and switched on Contacts in the settings menu, your contacts should start instantly importing and syncing to your iPhone device. As long as your Gmail account is connected to your phone, your phone contacts will always be saved in your Google Account.
