Below is our complete guide on setting up your WiFi extender. We also provide troubleshooting tips to keep your extender device operational.

Setting Up The TP-Link N300 WiFi Extender

Connect using your Web Browser

  1. Make sure your Wireless Router is working and connected to the internet.
    (You can confirm this with your mobile phone or computer).
  2. Plug the TL-WA855RE WiFi Extender in a wall-socket close to the router.
    (You want to make sure your router and extender are not too far apart).
  3. Using your Mobile Phone or Wireless on your Computer, go to your available WiFi networks and select TP-Link_Extender.
  4. Head over to your Web Browser (Chrome, Edge, FireFox, etc.) and type in http://tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254. Create a password to log in.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup of your WiFi extender.

Connect using the Tether App

  1. Make sure your Wireless Router is working and connected to the internet.
    (You can confirm this with your mobile phone or computer).
  2. Plug the TL-WA855RE WiFi Extender in a wall-socket close to the router.
    (You want to make sure your router and extender are not too far apart).
  3. On your mobile phone, head over to the app store and download the Tether App.
  4. Open Tether and then signup to create an account. After signing up, enter your login credentials and then click on Log In.
  5. Click on the + Button, then select Range Extender.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup of your WiFi extender.
    (When the Signal LED light turns solid, this will mean your WiFi extender has successfully connected to your Wireless Router).

 

Troubleshooting Your WiFi Extender

You have 2 lights on your extender device. One is Signal and the other is Power. Below is a breakdown of what each light means.

Signal Light

Solid Blue – The extender is successfully connected to your router.
Solid Red – The extender has a weak signal between it and the router.
Blinking – The WPS connection is in progress.
Off – The extender has no wireless connection to the router.

Power Light

On/Off – The extender is either on or off.
Blinking – The extender is either booting up or a firmware upgrade is in progress.

Common Problems

Problem:

The Tether app can’t find your extender device.

Solution:

A) Turn off your mobile phone Data.
B) Connect to the wireless network TP-Link_Extender. Go back to the Tether app and then complete setup.
C) If A and B don’t work, then try restarting both your phone and extender device. Then try running the setup in the Tether app again.

 

Problem:

The Extender has a Solid Red (weak signal).

Solution:

A) Try restarting the extender.
B) Try repositioning the extender closer to the router.
C) Using a pin, press and hold the RESET button for 1 second. The extender will reboot.

 

Problem:

Connected to the extender, but no internet access.

Solution:

A) Check to see if you have an active internet connection directly from the router using your mobile device or computer. If yes, then restart your extender device.
B) Try repositioning the extender closer to the router.
C) Restart your mobile device or try connecting with another mobile device/computer.
