Here is a guide for setting up your NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router. If you have experience with setting up any other traditional router, following this guide will be simple. The instruction listed below are also easy to follow for those who are setting up their WiFi network for the first time.
Setting Up Your AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router
- Before setting up your WiFi Router, make sure that you have an existing internet connection from a Modem. (A modem is what your Internet Service Provider or Cable Company provided you when you purchased a internet service package.)
- If you haven’t already, unpackage the router and it’s accessories. You should have the Router, a yellow Ethernet Cable, and a Power adapter.
- For the best WiFi performance, position both the left and right Antennas 45 degrees away from the center.
- Turn off your Cable Modem and make sure your WiFi Router is not connected to a power source. In the back of your WiFi Router, their is a yellow port called “Internet”, take the yellow Ethernet Cable and plug it there.
- Take the other end of the yellow Ethernet Cable and plug it into the Ethernet Port of your Cable Modem.
- Connect the power source for your Cable Modem and your WiFi Router. Turn on both devices. (You will know when the router is on and ready when the Power LED lights are amber and then turns white.)
- On the router device their should be a label that contains the preassigned WiFi login credentials (Username and Password). Open any working browser from a WiFi enabled device (Mobile Device, Tablet, etc.) and select your WiFi network.
- After connecting to your WiFi network, open any web browser, type a web address (google.com, etc.) and see if you have internet access. You now should be all set.
Usually before successfully connecting to the router, an installation assistant displays in your web browser. You can visit www.routerlogin.net to connect directly into your WiFi routers admin panel. Use the following credentials to login (case-sensitive): username: admin / password: password.
The admin panel allows you to access all of the routers features such as port forwarding, optimizing internet speeds for video streaming (Netflix, Youtube, etc.) and video gaming (Xbox, PS4, etc.). Other great features available from the Router are using the device as a media hub by connecting any external USB Storage Device. You can block internet access with a Keyword Filter to prevent children from looking at the wrong websites. VPN (Virtual Private Network), have your own private network where you can access your personal files from all over the world or host your own Website.

I cannot connect my Netgear AC1750 to internet. I can see my wifi network on the pc but cannot connect because “no internet, secured”.
I can connect to internet via ethernet from my modem but cannot connect either wirelessly or by ethernet thru the router.
Your WiFi settings may be configured incorrectly. What I recommend is resetting your router and following the steps again on setting it up. Be sure your able to login directly to the router via the admin panel to view or change any settings if needed.
I live in a shared household. The people I live with have a router in their home office, but it’s not a very strong router, and I live on the second floor, a good distance from the router. I can connect, but it is a weak connection, and sometimes I have to limit myself to a certain location; sometimes I lose the connection altogether. I was told there are several ways to remedy this. A friend gave me a brand-new router he has not used. I just went to hook it up and see that I am supposed to plug the ethernet cable into a modem. Does this mean that I need to buy an external modem?
You won’t need another modem for your new router. Remove the old router and replace it with the new one. Because the new router will be in the same location as your modem, you may see only a small improvement in the WiFi signal. If you are looking to have better coverage all over your home, I recommend purchasing a WiFi extender. What that does is boost your existing WiFi signal, so weaker parts of your home is covered. I recently had to reset my router and in my attempt to set it up again the networks from the router are not showing up in my list of available networks anymore. Any idea how to fix this?
I recommend doing another reset, connect an ethernet cord from the router into your desktop/laptop computer, go to your web browser and access the routers admin panel. If you can successfully connect to the admin panel, manually or using the wizard, reconfigure your WiFi setup. Enter a new SSID Username and Password and try connecting your wireless device again. I have same issue as JOSHUA L – after reset my router the network disappears in a few minutes. All leds (power, internet, 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, wifi ) are solid white – not blinking. I reset router several times – same result. Any idea? Reconfiguring SSID Username and Password can fix the problem?
Two options. Either run the Wireless Wizard Setup to create a new SSID and password. Or Manually create a new SSID and password. First make sure you are able to successfully connect to the internet through your router with an ethernet cable.
I have the Nighthawk AC1750 Smart WiFi Router and after setup we have 2 blinking red lights on the 1 and 2 ports and white lights blinking on the GHz lights. everything works but wondering why all the blinking lights.
The Amber LED color indicates the speed of your Ethernet connection. White is for Gigabit Ethernet connections and amber is for 100
Mbps or 10 Mbps Ethernet connections. Hope this helps.
if the cable modem has wireless capability, can you still hook up the netgear ac1750 and increase wifi capacity?
The Router won’t boost the Cable Modem’s WiFi range because it’s running off of it’s own frequency. If both devices are next to each other, I would recommend using one instead of both.
I just bought a AC1750 router and cannot get it to work on all my devises. I have cable plus I have a TVO box going to my TV. I can’t get my netflex to work even though I tried several times and my bedroom TV wont connet. They show netgear73 is locked and I cant put in the password. I am showing a amber light on the router. What should I do now..
I recommend resetting your router by pushing in and holding the reset button until your device resets. That button is located behind the device. Once restarted, everything should return back to default. This means anything connected via ethernet cable should automatically start working.
For your wireless – Go on a computer that is connected to your router. Log into your router by typing in 192.168.1.1 in any web browser. Use the default login for the router. Look for the large icon that says “Wireless”. Underneath that is the SSID & Password. You can use that to connect all your devices on the wireless network. Let me know if that helps.
I tried to turn up a Netgear AC1750 router today. Connected two iphones and a smart tv with no problem.
Everything went well, but I can’t get internet access. Any ideas why???
Check the ethernet cables on both the Cable Modem & Router to make sure they are connected correctly. If that doesn’t work, connect a laptop or computer directly to the cable modem and see if you get a connection then. Lastly, if you are getting an internet connection directly from the modem, try resetting your router.
I don’t have a cable modem, will this work?
If you are only creating a local area network, this will work without a cable modem. If you are trying to connect to the internet, you will need a cable modem.
