Dell XPS 15 Intro

If you’ve been thinking about upgrading to a mid-sized mid-range laptop that comes complete with some pretty impressive specifications – but a price point that won’t break your bank account – you’re going to want to take a good, long, hard look at the brand-new Dell XPS 15.

Easily one of the most impressive laptops of the last two years, it may not be a complete and total game changer as far as the technology, hardware, or design of this particular system is concerned, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not one of the best or smartest purchases you could make in the laptop market today.

>> SEE PRICE ON AMAZON <<

Let’s dive right into this Dell XPS 15 review!

Initial Impressions

At first blush, you might confuse the new Dell XPS 15 with an oversized MacBook Air – they share a lot of the same design aspects and “color schemes”.

However, upon closer inspection, you’re going to notice that this isn’t quite as we find a machine as the Apple product is, but that doesn’t believe that it’s not a powerhouse system that you can invest in for next to nothing today.

Designed as a flagship product when it was brand-new (back in December 2013), it has started to show its age a little bit for sure. However, it can still stand toe to toe with most other midsize laptops on the market today.

Hardware

As far as hardware is concerned, you’re going to be able to take advantage of an Intel Core i5 multi core process that packs quite a punch. On top of that, the system ships with 8 GB of RAM (expandable up to 16 GB for next to nothing), and a 500 GB standard hard drive that you might want to swap out for a 250 GB or larger solid-state.

The screen is 15.6 inches and pumps out a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and it’s running the latest Windows operating system. Weighing in at just over 4 pounds (and .7 inches wide when shut), it’s definitely compact, though not nearly as compact as some of the ultra-books out there today.

Design

The overall design of the entire Dell line these days is nothing short of impressive, and they have apparently thrown out there old generic book for something much more futuristic while at the same time subtle and a little bit understated.

Not quite as much a “looker” as the MacBook Air, it’s close enough to confuse the two from a little bit of a distance.

Value

When it was first released, this Dell XPS 15 laptop carried a $1500 price tag, which even then was a little bit on the steeper side of things.

However, today, you should be able to find this laptop (brand-new, no less) for less than half that – and sometimes even cheaper, depending upon the particular deal you’re able to uncover.

Final Verdict

At the end of the day, the Dell XPS 15 is still one of the best midsize laptops you can find on the market right now.

Relatively inexpensive, good-looking, and powerful enough for day to day use (and even a little bit of lightweight gaming), hopefully this Dell XPS review helps you make the right decision going forward.
